Teaching Throwing ...

Kerry Hastings is a professional ceramic artist with a BA (Hons) in Ceramics and a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen (MSDC). She works from her North London studio located close to Finsbury Park main line and underground station.

Classes are very much focused at being adapted to suit your requirements. Whether a complete beginner, or wishing to build on skills already attained, you will learn how to either throw on the potter’s wheel, or the techniques of handbuilding; coiling, slabbing, pinch pots. You will receive expert teaching in the fascinating and diverse world of ceramics.

 

The cost of all courses includes all tools, materials and firings.

I offer three courses:

Hand building course £200

A 4 week course run on 4 consecutive Saturdays from 11.00am - 1pm

7th March to 28th March

18th April to 9th May

Over the course of 4 weeks you will learn the basic techniques of hand building in clay and how to decorate and glaze your bisque pieces.

In the first session we will look at pattern and colour and choose a decorative technique to apply to your individual work.  In your last session you will be shown how to apply glaze.

Session 1: Pinch a cup, spoon, bud vase....

Session 2: Coil a bowl, jug, plant pot....

Session 3: Slab and press mould a plate or a bowl

Session 4: Glaze your pots

Beginners Pottery - Throwing Course £200

A 4 week course run on 4 consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm - 8.30pm.

7th April to 28th April

Learn how to throw on the potter’s wheel in a small group of max 5. This 4-week course will cover the basics of making a pot from a ball of clay, throwing a cylinder, attaching a handle for a mug, pulling a spout, throwing a bowl and lastly trimming and glazing your pieces. This course is suitable for both complete novices and those who have previous experience. 
The cost of the course includes all tools, materials and firings.

Improvers 5 week Throwing Practice £150

A 5 week course run on 5 consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm - 8.30pm.

These  sessions are an opportunity for students to practice by renting a wheel and having access to clay and glazes. 

These sessions will be facilitated by myself but there will be no formal instruction. Practice sessions are only for those who have had previous experience throwing, trimming and glazing ceramics. The cost of the sessions includes stoneware clay and  our studio glazes for you to use, there will also be plenty of tools. At the end of your session you will be able to choose your best 10 pots to fire and glaze. 

At the beginning of your first session I will run through how the studio works and where to find tools and clay.

Cancellation policy

A full refund can only be given within 14 days from the initial date of booking.
You can reschedule your class provided I am given at least 7 days notice before your class date.
I am unable to change any bookings if LESS than 7 days notice is given.
